Shielded from the sun in 90-degree weather, Weaver and other volunteers stood beneath a tent at the Montrose event answering questions about the transsexual community and offering information to the hundreds who turned out at the festival. While passing out fliers and stretchy purple wristbands for the Gateway of Hope, pastor Sven Verveet pronounced himself optimistic about how government leaders are addressing gay rights. While most of the people at the festival and parade were in support of the gay community, a few vocal opponents also turned out.
