Gang rivalry alleged in club killings

Alleged gunman Feanyichi Uvukansi, prosecutors said, was aiming at 23-year-old Coy "Poppa C" Thompson, a member of the rival Crips gang, when he opened fire on hundreds of people in the early-morning hours of June 20. According to court records, Uvukansi is a member of the Bloods gang. Investigators have said Uvukansi, who was out on bail after being accused of assaulting a police officer trainee in April, targeted Thompson, who also was free on bail after being charged in February with trafficking felony amounts of marijuana and liquid codeine. Thompson also had a lengthy criminal record and was sentenced in 2005 to five years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated robbery.
